Figurative Language
Technique: | Definition: | Your Example: |
Simile | A simile is a way of describing an object using like or as. | They were as tall as a giraffe. |
Metafor | A metaphor is when you describe an object as something is. | The sun is a ball of fire. |
Personification | Personification is when something is described with a human characteristic to something non-human. | The trees danced back and forth in the wind. |
Onomatopoeia | Onomatopoeia is when objects are described using sound words. Such as bang, boom, blast, pop. | The fireworks when high in the sky then went bang and boom! |
Hyperbole | Hyperbole is an exaggeration for effect. May not exactly be true. | I ate so many carrots they started growing out my ears. |
Alliteration | Alliteration is used to describe an object or scene using words only with the same letter at the start of the word. | Sally sells sea shells on the sea shore. |
